Epstein provided civil engineering design services for the Wolf Point West residential high-rise located in Chicago, Illinois.
The developers, Hines and Magellan Development Group LLC, constructed a 48-story residential apartment tower designed by bKL Architecture with lower level parking, a 2nd floor amenity level, a ground floor entry level with a pool and work-out facilities, and a cantilevered river walk along the Chicago River. The project is located at the northeast corner of the confluence of the North Branch of the Chicago River and the Main Stem of the Chicago River. The project was designed and achieved LEED-NC BD+C Silver certification. Construction commenced in 2013 and was completed in 2016.
Epstein's civil engineering services included the design of the grading for the plaza and river walk, stormwater detention design and discharge to the Chicago River including bio-infiltration and hydrodynamic water quality treatment of the stormwater.
Epstein's engineers also designed a 900 lineal foot water main loop, a 600 lineal foot sanitary sewer including a connection to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) Interceptor, and coordination of new electric transmission lines, telephone, and gas service. Epstein's civil team also designed the infill for the removal of a light pedestal on the Wolf Point Plaza bridge structure that included coordination of the re-setting of post-tension cables in the superstructure slab.
In addition to our design services, Epstein was responsible for permitting the stormwater discharges to the Chicago River and the water and sewer main extensions through the Illinois Department of Environmental Protection. Epstein also obtained storm sewer connection authorization to the Chicago River through the MWRD.
