This week our trip down the Epstein Would Have Been lane takes us to Guangdong, China for a mixed-use development design completion sponsored by the Chinese Government that we entered in 2005.

Our design was modeled on the city plaza concept, one that provides a pleasant environment for leisure, entertainment, shopping, and business. View corridors and generous open areas served as destination spots for people and helped channel pedestrian movement to various outdoor activities.

The architecture sought to create a unique contemporary style through adapting the idea of modernity, simplicity, and generosity as the primary force of expression. Office, hotel, shopping arcade, and residential building were the main architectural focal points.

The planning of these various programmatic functions required the good use of Feng Shui as a common sense guideline to health and prosperity.

The essential elements of greening the open area were water, tree, and grass which, in combination, articulate a quiet, comfortable, and natural atmosphere.

Alas, after submitting our design scheme the competition the Chinese Government put the project on-hold & never officially picked a winner. So, who knows, maybe one day well get a call saying we won!
