We are pleased to welcome Simon Cygielski, our new Project Architect, to Epstein! Simon joins our Architecture Department, and will be in charge of technical coordination on the Toyoko Inn project. Toyoko is a 19-story, 615 key hotel, which will be located at 320 South Clinton Street in Chicago, Illinois.
For the last seven years, Simon worked at Skidmore, Owings & Merrills Chicago office, mostly in the interiors group, taking part in a variety of projects, including: office, hospitality, residential and mixed-use projects in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the U.S. He also played an active role in training SOMs interiors team in Revit and associated software.
He received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago (go Flames!) in 2011, after switching to architecture after more than a decade as a journalist and photographer.
Simon was born in Warsaw, Poland, and grew up on the north side of Chicago. He graduated from Lane Tech High School, and after serving four years in the U.S. Navy, obtained a Bachelor of Arts in photojournalism from Columbia College Chicago.
Since becoming an architect, Simon has remained active in photography, video and computer graphics as personal hobbies. He also is interested in computers, open-source software and space exploration. Hes a certifiable sci-fi geek, as he puts it.
Simon has been married to the same woman, Margo, for more than 20 years, has two college-aged children, Eryk and Maia, and two cats. We would like to see photos of all of the above, please.
Welcome again, Simon. We are thrilled to have you at Epstein!
