We are pleased to welcome one of two summer interns, Lucas Barbosa, to Epstein! This is Lucas second year as a summer intern with our MEP department, where he has a focus on the design of mechanical systems.
In his past experience with Epstein, Lucas worked on a wide range of projects, including industrial food processing facilities, hotels and clean rooms. This summer, he aims to work on the same wide range of project types and has already begun working on the TAAG Genetics Microbiological Testing Laboratory project. In past internships with ESD (Environmental Systems Design) and Norcon Inc., Lucas worked on designing data centers and aided in the construction of hotels, theaters and high-end residences in the Chicago area.
Lucas is currently enrolled at Marquette University (go Golden Eagles!) and will receive his Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering this upcoming December. In terms of extracurricular activities, he was part of a fraternity, and has participated in various clubs such as the Real Estate Club and ASME. After graduation, Lucas hopes to return to Chicago, start working as soon as possible, and get as much experience in the work force as he can.
He decided to pursue this industry because he wanted to have a direct effect on his urban landscape. Lucas has always been mesmerized by the architecture and engineering feats that have produced Chicagos amazing skyline and city blocks; he hopes to one day see a project he has worked on take a physical form and be a part of the city he loves. Adding to that, Lucas said, Epsteins long history in Chicago and the many incredible projects they have worked on across the Chicagoland area is what drew me to this company. In the past, I have interned at a general contractor (Norcon Inc.), but realized I wanted to focus on the design aspect of engineering.
Lucas was born and raised in Chicago and went to high school at the Latin School of Chicago. For fun, he likes to travel and has been all around the world. He also swims, plays water polo and loves to camp and listen to music. He is also an avid listener of podcasts.
As a first generation American, with two Brazilian parents, Lucas is fluent in English and Portuguese, and proficient in Spanish. Impressive! We are delighted to have you back with us this summer, Lucas, and cant wait to see what you do beyond graduation!
