Epstein is working with the Illinois Department of Transportation for a Phase I Study of the intersection of US 14 and Hartland/Hughes Road in McHenry County, Illinois. The purpose of the study is to assess the existing safety needs and evaluate long-term safety and operations at the intersection. Participants can watch a presentation about the study, view exhibits and leave comments. All comments received by August 7, 2022 will be included in the public record.

IDOT annually performs an analysis of statewide crash data to identify locations with the most pressing safety needs. The intersection of US 14 with Hartland/Hughes Road is one such location identified.

Several implemented countermeasures in summer of 2018 provided short-term solutions to address concerns found by the Road Safety Review. These improvements included relocated stop bars on Hartland/Hughes Road closer to the intersection to improve drivers’ sight distance, additional pavement markings on US 14, and the addition of stop signs, advance warning signage and flashing amber beacons on Hartland/Hughes Road. Future needs to be addressed include drainage and lighting.
