We were informed earlier this week that our OneEleven project was chosen by ENR Midwest as the Best Residential/Hospitality Project of 2015! For this unique 60-story high-rise residential building we served as the Architect of Record working with design architect, Handel Architects, to modifying the existing built structure and create a new image for the property.
For those of you not familiar with the backstory behind OneEleven, originally this site, located along the Chicago River at 111 W. Wacker, was designed to be a 90-story Shangri-La Hotel with high-end condominiums. Construction on the Shangri-La began in 2007 and was then halted in 2008, leaving a 24-story concrete frame shell in place. This high-profile & mammoth eyesore remained in place for a few years until the Related Companies purchased the property and hired Handel and Epstein to redevelop and design the building into a 60-story apartment building featuring 504 rental units, 445 parking spaces, as well as ample amenities.
The end product is now an award-winning LEED-NC Gold certified tower and, most importantly, a beautiful addition to the Chicago River skyline!
