Construction continues on the two-building Class A Office Mennica Legacy Tower, which will be comprised of a 35-story east tower and a 10-story west building located in the Central Business District of Warsaw. For this project, Epstein is serving as the architect and engineer of record, as well as the design engineer for MEP and structural engineering services. Our friends at Goettsch Partners are the design architects.
The construction of the Mennica development, due to the sites relatively high water wall and the adjacent existing subway lines, is utilizing the "Slurry Wall," or "Diaphragm Wall," technique. Tom Suarez, PE, SE, Epsteins chief structural engineer and designer of Mennicas structural system, explains what can be seen in the construction progress photos featured in this article:
"With the Warsaw skyline in the background, and with ten levels remaining until the tower is topped out, the following picture taken from the level 24 formwork demonstrates how the east tower ranks among the tallest buildings in the city."
"With the curtain wall installation currently at level 5 of the east tower, the distinctive saw tooth shape of the façade is starting to become more apparent. Panels on the short return leg of the curtain wall will open to allow fresh air ventilation of the office space."
"This picture, taken from level 8 of the west tower, shows what will be an accessible terrace overlooking the plaza below."
Mennica is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2019.
