Epsteins chief electrical engineer, Joe Romano, PE, was recently named as a Volunteer of the Year by the Electric Association of Chicago (EA). Joe received this honor for going above and beyond the call of duty as a volunteer to the organization through his donation of time and helping the association achieve its goals. Specifically, Joe was chosen for his services to the Consulting Electrical Engineers division of the EA, where he is currently the Chairman and has served on the CEEs Board of Directors since 2012. During his time with the CEE, Joe has played a significant role in recruiting young engineers into the organization. In addition, Joe currently serves on the planning committee of the EAs Young Electrical Professional division and on the committee to plan the EAs Annual Conference and Tradeshow. Lastly, Joe was also acknowledged for his current role as a member of the EAs Board of Directors, where he is a representative from the engineering segment of the industry.

About Joe Romano

As chief electrical engineer, Joe has full responsibility for the overall technical quality of Epsteins Chicago-based electrical systems design, as well as the training and development of our electrical engineering staff. Joe also assists Epsteins director of MEP/FP engineering, Kevin Christensen, PE, in the scheduling of staff as well as business development responsibilities for the MEP/FP group.

Joe joined Epstein in 2005 shortly after graduating with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During his nearly 12-year tenure at Epstein Mr. Romano has provided electrical design and project management services for a variety of project types including food processing & manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, residential developments, education facilities, office buildings, data centers, airports, and hotels.


Currently, Joe is leading our engineering efforts for the replacement of OHare International Airports Emergency and Standby Power System Generators 1-6 located within the H&R Plant. This significant project, which is currently in the final stages of bidding, involves providing greater system functionality and efficiency during emergencies in which normal operations have been impacted.

To serve as the interface between various organizations serving the same industry, and foster the interchange of ideas, product knowledge, and programs in order to create the best external environment possible for conducting business in the electrical industry.

About the Consulting Electrical Engineers

The objectives of the Consulting Electrical Engineers Division are:

  • To improve the professional status of consulting electrical engineers,
  • To develop better engineering standards and practices, and
  • To disseminate the resulting knowledge.

These goals are pursued through seminars, meetings, educational courses, and publication of reference materials.
