Jacob K. Javits Convention Center to Expand

Last Thursday, New York's Governor, Andrew M. Cuomo, announced that the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center was going to expand and thereby create more than one million square feet of event space and also feature a ballroom that would be New York City's largest. In addition, a glass addition at the northern end of the center would provide meeting rooms, new exhibition halls and outdoor space for visitors to Javits. Lastly, Javits' existing North Hall, which was designed by Epstein and FXFOWLE, as a temporary swing space during the recently completed renovation project, will be demolished and replaced with a four-level garage for tractor-trailers bringing in displays and other equipment.

For the past 18 months, Epstein, along with our NYC-based partner, FXFOWLE, have been working on the plans and schemes for this expansion, and Governor Cuomo, as part of his Javits expansion announcement, released renderings of that effort. Construction on this exciting new phase for Javits is scheduled to begin this year.
