May 16, 2023
May 16 is recognized as National Love a Tree Day, a day in which we can celebrate the joys that trees bring. As a vital part of nature, they provide shade from the blazing sun, but also provide common products we use such as various fruits and vegetables, paper, clothing, furniture, and the very homes we live in.
In celebration of this day, we are highlighting an architectural and engineering assessment project for Millennium Park, a 24.5-acre outdoor cultural facility featuring monumental artistic, architectural landscape design elements on top of a six-level, 2,126-space underground parking structure with access to a bus-way and Metra rail station. The boundaries of Millennium Park are the east side of Columbus Drive to the west side of Michigan Avenue, and the south side of Randolph Street to the north side of Monroe.
The Epstein-led consultant team is comprised of firms providing the following disciplines to assess the existing conditions of the facilities and elements of Millennium Park: architectural, civil, survey, structural, MEP, fountains, fire protection, LEED, strategic planning, administration, and inspections.
Effective January 1, 2022, the Department of Assets, Information & Services became responsible for the property and facility management of Millennium Park including, all the hardscapes, buildings, structures, and landscape areas including the Lurie Garden which boasts black and cherry locusts, redbuds.
