Every summer Epstein welcomes a new batch of interns to our Chicago headquarters. A group of incredibly talented young women and men who during their summer internship work alongside our design, engineering and construction staff on a wide variety of projects. In addition, our interns also have the opportunity to see how all of the work we do within the confines of 600 West Fulton is put to use in the 'real world.' Meaning that our Interns get to experience what happens on construction sites like they did this past Wednesday (June 22nd) when Epstein's senior project manager, David Scott, AIA, arranged for our interns to observe the Conrad by Hilton job site at 101 East Erie in Chicago.

The Conrad by Hilton project is pretty fascinating as we are the lead architect and engineer for the conversion of the upper 13 floors of the commercial office building into a five-star luxury hotel. Therefore, our interns got a unique behind the scenes view of this incredibly complicated project and were able to observe the construction of an eye-catching multi-story lobby/reception atrium, the kitchen, various suites/rooms as well as here get some inside 'scoop' on the various innovative technological features for the Conrad by Hilton. Including amenities like hotel check-in and room key access through mobile phone apps, occupancy sensing light switches that will help the hotel become more energy efficient, and panels outside of guest room indicating when rooms are ready for cleaning.

This visit to the Conrad by Hilton site is just one of many site visits or in-house presentations that our interns will get to experience during their internship. The next tour will be a three-part visit led by Epstein's senior civil engineer, David Hilty, PE, and project engineer, Becky Howe, PE, on July 5th to our recent civil engineering work for three massive high-rises (River Point, 150 N. Riverside and Wolf Point) currently under construction along the banks of the Chicago River.

Our summer intern program is one of our longest running corporate endeavors. The entire Epstein organization is very excited to help mentor our interns and thoroughly enjoys working with these future all-star architects, engineers and construction professionals.
