The $350M Illinois Medical District (IMD) Gateway, a Chicago development that Epstein has master planned and is serving as the master architect and engineer, was featured in the May 6th issue of the Architects Newspaper. In this article, Thomas Samuels, one of the developers of the IMD Gateway, is interviewed about the project, describing the future of this 9.5 acre site as a dense, urban town center with both paved and green public spaces featuring a medical office building, hotel, retail space, apartments targeted at young professionals, multifamily housing, and parking areas. In addition to the office, retail and residential components, the IMD Gateway, which is scheduled to break ground later this year, will also feature a 5-story parking garage with a 40,000 square foot urban farm/greenhouse.
Mr. Samuels and his fellow developers, Higgins Development Partners, East Lake Management & Development Corp, and Isiah Real Estate, which is headed by former NBA star Isiah Thomas, hope that the IMD Gateway will attract not only visitors to the greater myriad of IMD hospitals, laboratories and bio-tech incubators employees, but also non-IMD pedestrians and consumers from Chicagos near west side.
