Friends of the Chicago River is an organization that works in partnership with the likes of municipalities, businesses and schools on projects that benefit the Chicago River. Its Planning Committee a multi-disciplinary group of knowledgeable volunteers concerned with river-sensitive design has provided suggestions and improvements for a number of riverfront development proposals throughout the Chicago River watershed for more than a decade.
We are thrilled to share our Greg Osborne, P.E., LEED AP, has recently been named to Friends Planning Committee!
As Epsteins Vice President and Director of Civil Engineering, Greg has over 20 years of civil engineering design experience and, at Epstein, is responsible for directing our site development, transportation and infrastructure engineering services. In this role, Greg has led the engineering design for Epsteins numerous significant Chicago River developments, including Wolf Point West, 150 N. Riverside and River Point, which recently won the Green Ribbon Award for its river-sensitive design and consideration.
The purpose of the Committee is to create a forum where members can advance water-sensitive design for rivers edge developments and long-term guidelines, zoning regulation and policy changes as advocates for the Chicago River watershed.
In addition to immediate duties, for rivers edge developments seeking plan approval from the City of Chicagos Department of Planning and Development (DPD), the Committee also serves as an official public comment.
The Planning Committee prioritizes public river access, stormwater retention, habitat protection and creation, and streambank gradation and restoration to further Friends mission of making the Chicago River one of the worlds great metropolitan waterways, Friends said.
