Last week, Epsteins director of civil engineering, Greg Osborne, PE, partnered with Lubka Benak, a project manager with the Chicago Department of Transportation, to co-lead a lead a National Association of Transportation Officials (NATCO) Walkshop of the Devon Avenue Streetscape and the Riverview Bridge construction site, which will be part of the 312RiverRun continuous riverfront trail.
The group that Greg and Lubka led was a mix of engineers, planners and bike/pedestrian coordinators from municipalities and consultants throughout the United States. This Walkshop also allowed Greg the opportunity to talk about the Epstein designed and engineered Riverview Bridge project and how this Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge, when complete next year, will close a gap in the riverfront trail between Belmont and Montrose. In addition, Greg spoke about the regulatory agencies involved, the alternatives analysis that were performed and how the design of Riverview Bridge was chosen.
This tour that Greg and Lubka co-led was part of NACTOs Designing Cities Conference which brought together over 800 officials, planners, and practitioners to advance the state of transportation in cities. For more information on NACTO and the Design Cities Conference please visit -

And, for those of you not familiar with Riverview Bridge, its a 1,000 foot long pedestrian bridge which will cross over the Chicago River and under the Addison Road Bridge. This new bridge will provide a new connection for runners, bicyclists and pedestrians between the paths in Clark Park to the south and California Park to the north and will also help create one of Chicagos largest recreational hubs, called the 312 RiverRun, by connecting three parks with one path for nearly two miles.
