Over a dozen Epsteiners took part in the Active Transportation Alliance’s 2022 Bike Challenge this month, logging over 715 miles as a group, and earning over 1,100 points. The challenge, which took place June 6 – June 19, encourages Chicagoland organizations to compete to see who can earn the most points by riding their bike.
Ryan Peterson, Planner, helped to facilitate the team and encouraged people to get on their bikes and support a fantastic organization like Active Transportation Alliance.
"I hope the challenge shows first time bike commuters that hopping on a bike is not only a great way to get to work but a lot of fun and the perfect way to start your day," Ryan said. The event has helped connect more experienced riders with their colleagues for rides outside of commuting.
"The 2022 Bike Challenge has been a great success, and we hope to add even more Epsteiners in 2023," Ryan added.
Riders do not need to be an experienced bike commuter to participate, and any miles on a bike counts toward the team total. Goals of the challenge such as getting and staying active, reducing our carbon footprint and creating healthy competition made for a fun way to kick off summer.
