Last night (November 16th), NAIOP Chicago held their 30th annual Awards for Excellence at Chicagos Navy Pier. This NAIOP awards program recognizes outstanding developments and transactions in commercial real estate in 14 categories. One of the winners from last night was Wolf Point West, a 48-story residential apartment tower located at the northeast corner of the confluence of the North Branch of the Chicago River and the Main Stem of the Chicago River. Wolf Point West was chosen as the Multi-Family Development of the Year.
For Wolf Point West, Epstein served as the civil engineer responsible for the design of the grading for the plaza and river walk, stormwater detention design and discharge to the Chicago River, including bio-infiltration and hydrodynamic water quality treatment of the stormwater. Epsteins civil engineers also designed a 900 linear foot water main loop, a 600 linear foot sanitary sewer including a connection to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) Interceptor, and coordination of new electric transmission lines, telephone, and gas service.
In addition to the West Tower design, Epstein civil engineers were responsible for developing the master planning of the entire Wolf Point development which will include a parking garage and two additional high-rise towers. Those master planning services included grading, vehicular maneuvering and circulation, and utility design.
Individual congratulations go out our lead civil engineer for this project, Dave Hilty, PE, as well as design team members: bKL Architecture LLC (the design architect), James McHugh Construction Co. & Clark Construction (the general contractors) and Hines/Wolf Point Owners, LLC (the developers and owner).
