Epstein was retained by the British School of Chicago to provide full interior design services and MEP/FP engineering for its new, 75,000 square foot school. The dramatically modern building is five stories and can accommodate a student population of 600, ages 3 to 18.
The Epstein-designed interior spaces include science laboratories, art rooms, a music classroom/laboratory, a design technology laboratory, both junior and senior-level libraries, a warming kitchen, a multi-functional dining space with seating for 300 students, a full-sized basketball court/ gymnasium and administrative offices. A ground-level playground is provided for younger students while a unique, rooftop exercise area was designed for older students.
In addition to providing interior design services, Epstein also provided M/E/P engineering services for the school. Special considerations included accommodations for a mobile laptop computer lab, which allows computers to be transported from room to room, laboratory support services, and music rooms, where sound performance is critical.
